Carruthers Calls for Online Casino Legalization12 Apr 2006 Following his high profile exchange with a prominent politician, John Carruthers has spoken out recently against the proposal to ban online casino firms currently being pushed by Arizona Senator John Shadegg. In a recent article reproduced in several gaming publications, the online casino boss states that what legislation and regulation is what the industry really needs. Carruthers also referred to the online casino bill as a “waste of time.”
As an alternative option, Carruthers urged the government to legalize and regulate online casino firms in an attempt to address under-age gambling and gambling addiction. The online casino boss believes that regulation will create enforceable standards of practice for all gaming operators. In his article, Carruthers wrote that regulation will improve business practice in general, and make online casino operators more accessible to partners and customers.
In Carruthers’ view, the United Kingdom is currently the best example of a country successfully addressing the phenomenon of online casino gambling. The Gambling Act 2005 has been responsible for establishing a Gambling Commission dedicated to regulating and licensing online casino operators, as well as addressing criminal activity and gambling addiction.
